Introduction About OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET

OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET is a combination of Chlorthalidone, Cilnidipine and
Olmesartanwhich belongs to the group of medicines called Antihypertensive
agents. It is used to manage essential hypertension.

Hypertension also known as high or raised blood pressure, is a condition in
which the blood vessels have persistently raised pressure. Blood is carried from
the heart to all parts of the body in the vessels. Each time the heart beats, it
pumps blood into the vessels.

Blood pressure is created by the force of blood pushing against the walls of
blood vessels (arteries) as it is pumped by the heart. The higher the pressure,
the harder the heart has to pump.

During the course of management your doctor might regularly monitor your blood
pressure, kidney function and electrolyte balance at regular intervals to avoid
any untoward side effects.

OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver,
kidney, and heart disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

How OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET Works

OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET effectively reduces the blood pressure where
Chlorthalidone acts by enhancing excretion of sodium (which is necessary for
constriction of blood vessels) and water from the body causing the blood vessels
to relax and Cilnidipine makes the blood vessels to relax and thus lowers the
blood pressure by blocking the calcium entry in blood vessels which is necessary
for the smooth muscle contraction. Olmesartan acts by blocking the effects of
Angiotensin II (substance produced in your body which causes narrowing of blood
vessels).

How to use OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET

Take OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow this medicine
with a glass of water and do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will
decide the right dose and duration depending upon your age, body weight and
disease condition.

Side Effects Of OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET

Common

• dizziness
• headache
• nausea
• indigestion
• diarrhoea
• stomach pain
• gastroenteritis (intestinal infection marked by diarrhoea, cramps, nausea, vomiting and fever)

How To Manage Side Effects

Nausea or Vomiting:

Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid
eating oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks, and drinks. Try to avoid drinking
too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Consult

Constipation:

Eat plenty of fibre rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals and
drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

Dizziness

Lie, or sit down immediately when you feel dizzy. If you are feeling a severe
episode of dizziness, lie in a dark and quite place with eyes closed. Discuss
with your doctor.

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Try to take rest in a quiet and dark

shock, myocardial infarction (heart attack), acute unstable angina, and aortic

Others

• have decreased levels of potassium and sodium
• have increased levels of calcium and urea
• have gout

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of
the following medicine:

• valsartan, captopril, aliskiren (used to lower blood pressure)
• digoxin (medicine used to manage heart failure and abnormal heart rhythm)
• cimetidine (medicine used for stomach ulcer)
• rifampicin (medicine used to manage tuberculosis)
• itraconazole, miconazole (medicines used to manage fungal infections)
• medicines that may increase blood potassium levels such as salt substitutes containing potassium, potassium-sparing diuretics (Ex. amiloride, spironolactone)
• lithium (used to manage mood swings and some types of depression)
• medicines used to manage pain and inflammation (Ex. aspirin, ibuprofen)
• colesevelam (lowers the level of cholesterol in your blood)
• antacids like aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide (used for indigestion, heartburn)

B. Drug - Food interaction:

Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET as it may

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of OLKEM TRIO 40MG TABLET,

overdosage includes low blood pressure, dizziness, nausea, sleepiness, and
electrolyte disturbances associated with cardiac arrhythmias (irregular
heartbeat) and muscle stiffness.
